What This Case Demonstrates

This case shows how genuine-visitor evidence needs to be presented as a complete, consistent picture rather than a collection of separate documents. See the IndoWorld Application Intelligence Framework for more on this reasoning.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance from official UK government sources for a salaried applicant visiting close family settled in the UK on a Standard Visitor visa (the visitor / tourist visa). It is not a description of the case above.

  • The test in the rules. Appendix V (V 4.2) asks the decision maker to be satisfied that the applicant will leave at the end of the visit, will not live in the UK through frequent or successive visits, is genuinely seeking entry for a permitted purpose, will not do prohibited activities and has sufficient funds.
  • Employment evidence. The supporting documents guide gives a letter from the employer on headed paper detailing role, salary and length of employment as an example, with proof of earnings and bank statements that detail the origin of funds.
  • Travel history. The guide lists copies of previous passports showing travel to other countries. The caseworker guidance says a record of complying with immigration laws may indicate a genuine visitor, and that a first-time traveller relies on other evidence instead.
  • If relatives are hosting or paying. The guide asks for evidence of what is provided, the host’s funds, the relationship and the host’s lawful UK status; the guidance flags discrepancies between the applicant’s and the host’s statements.
  • Say what the main reason for the visit is. The caseworker guidance says an applicant should be able to explain their main reason for coming, even though visitors may do more than one permitted activity.
  • Details on the form. The application asks for details of family members you have in the UK, including passport numbers, so the relationship evidence should match what is entered.

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

With a family-visit refusal, check whether the notice relies on the genuine-visitor sentence (see wording), economic ties (see wording) or a discrepancy between documents and stated circumstances. If the letter names family in the UK, compare it with what the form says about relatives in the UK and at home (family in the country of residence). The UK visitor visa refusal reasons page puts the grounds in plain language.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
