New Zealand Parent Boost Visitor Visa from India

The New Zealand Parent Boost Visitor Visa is a visitor visa for parents of New Zealand citizens and residents. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) describes it as a multi-entry visa that allows a parent to visit their family in New Zealand for up to 5 years. There is no time limit on how long each visit can be, but the holder must leave New Zealand during the third year of the visa for a health and insurance check, and must leave before the visa expires. A parent can hold a maximum of 2 Parent Boost Visitor Visas. INZ states that it is a temporary visa and does not give a pathway to a resident visa. IndoWorld Visa & Education Services helps families in Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, Surat and across India prepare an application against the requirements INZ publishes.

INZ lists these requirements for the parent: to have a child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident and be sponsored by that child; to have no dependent children; to be living outside New Zealand, and outside New Zealand when applying; to be in good health and of good character; to have enough money for living costs in New Zealand, or a sponsor who earns enough to support the parent; to hold medical or travel insurance; and to have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand. A partner can be included in the application with evidence of the relationship and of their good health and character. The sponsor must be an adult child aged 18 or older who is a New Zealand citizen or resident: a natural child, an adopted child, or a partner’s child under the conditions INZ sets. Up to 2 joint sponsors are allowed. INZ also requires the sponsor to normally live in New Zealand and to spend at least 184 days in New Zealand each year that the parent holds the visa; this condition applies to the sponsor, not to the parent. Sponsors agree to cover essential living costs such as accommodation, to make sure the parent has access to health and financial support, and to cover repatriation or deportation costs if required.

Money, insurance and health. The money requirement can be met in one of three ways: the parent’s annual income, the parent’s personal funds in a bank account, or the sponsor’s income. INZ sets the amounts and updates them, so use the figures on the official INZ page. The parent needs at least 1 year of medical insurance, travel insurance or both; INZ says to research the options before applying but to buy the insurance only after the application is approved in principle. The cover must include emergency medical care, cancer coverage, repatriation and return of remains, at the minimum amounts INZ lists, from an insurer that meets INZ’s credit rating requirement. After the first year, insurance cover is needed for each visit to New Zealand. A chest X-ray and a medical examination with an INZ panel physician are required, and INZ says the acceptable standard of health is higher than for other visitor visas. Police certificates are required for applicants aged 17 or over whose total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or longer.

Work and study. The holder cannot work in New Zealand on a visitor visa, although INZ says it may be possible to volunteer or work remotely for an employer or client based outside New Zealand. The holder can study for up to 3 months in any 12-month period. As evidence of genuine intentions INZ gives examples such as a statement of plans after the visit, evidence of family ties or commitments in the home country, and evidence of previous travel; applicants in Gujarat may show these with documents such as property or land records (for example 7/12 extracts) and bank records.

Official rules, document checklists, costs and processing times are set by INZ: see the INZ Parent Boost Visitor Visa page, which shows costs and processing times for the applicant’s country. IndoWorld Visa & Education Services is an independent consultancy; INZ makes the decision on every application. We do not guarantee visa approvals or processing times.

IF AN APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If an application was refused

If a New Zealand visa application was refused, start with the reasons in the refusal letter. Our guide to New Zealand visitor visa refusal reasons explains the common grounds, and the wording guide row on genuine intentions shows how that phrasing reads in plain language; the full wording guide lists the New Zealand rows. Compare each reason with the new file and answer it with documents rather than explanation. INZ notes that it is not legally obliged to reconsider declined Parent Boost Visitor Visas, so a new application should address the earlier reasons. The decision on every application rests with INZ, and no outcome can be promised.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? You can email your documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. The review does not promise an outcome. The Parent Boost Visitor Visa is a visitor visa, so you can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
