A representative case involving a retired applicant preparing an Australia Visitor visa application to visit an adult child.

This is a representative, anonymised case study. It is not a real client experience or testimonial (real client accounts are on the Client Experiences pages), and it does not state a specific visa decision. Identifying details are omitted or generalised; the case illustrates the type of preparation work and reasoning IndoWorld applies to this kind of application.

WHAT THIS ILLUSTRATES

What This Case Illustrates

This case illustrates why retirement income needs its own clear explanation rather than being documented like salaried employment. See the IndoWorld Application Intelligence Framework for more on this reasoning.

LIMITS OF THIS CASE

What This Case Does Not Prove

This representative case is not evidence of an approval probability or success rate, and it is not a guarantee of any outcome. It does not describe a real client’s decision, timeline or result, and it should not be read as a prediction for any other applicant. See the other Australia visitor visa representative case studies for differently structured examples.

It does not show that pension or savings income of any level is enough: the official Tourist stream page asks for enough money to support yourself and does not state a fixed amount. It also does not state which Visitor visa stream applied to the applicant.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance from the Australian Department of Home Affairs for a retired applicant visiting an adult child in Australia on a Visitor visa (subclass 600), the visa often called a tourist visa. It does not describe the case above.

  • Access to money is the test. The Tourist stream page says you must have, or have access to, enough money to support yourself in Australia, and lists, as examples, itemised bank statements for three months, term deposits, tax records and credit card statements, with pay slips and audited accounts where relevant.
  • No stated minimum. The page gives no fixed amount, so the statements should fit the length and style of the stay planned.
  • Invitation. A letter from the child can state their relationship to you, the purpose and length of the visit and whether you will stay with them; if they will pay for your stay, Home Affairs asks for proof of their funds.
  • Reasons to go home. Listed examples: close family in your home country, a house or other major assets there, and evidence you can return.
  • Length of stay. Generally three months, up to 12 in certain circumstances; for parents of citizens or permanent residents longer visas may be considered case by case, and the longer period must be requested and explained in the application.
  • Insurance. Home Affairs states you are liable for your healthcare costs in Australia and strongly recommends adequate health insurance; for a visa valid for more than 12 months, adequate health insurance arrangements must also have been made.

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

Where a retired applicant has been refused, read which requirement is cited: enough money to support yourself or be a genuine visitor. If the letter is about money, the pension and savings statements are the first place to look; if it is about being a genuine visitor, look at the family and property documents. The Australia visitor visa refusal reasons page covers the grounds, and the review-rights sentence explains what the letter says about review.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? IndoWorld experts read it and compare it with the application that was refused. Documents are sent by email, the review is held by video call, phone call or at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Start from the refusal letter review page.
