PROCESS STAGE

Where This Case Reached

The documents were organised and reviewed as described above. This representative case does not describe a decision; the decision on every New Zealand visitor visa application rests with Immigration New Zealand.

WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES

What This Case Demonstrates

A relative’s support should be evidenced and described accurately; it does not remove the need to assess the applicant’s circumstances. This case shows why the funding story and the relationship should be told once, in the same way, in every document. See the IndoWorld Refusal-to-Remedy Framework and the family visa application preparation guide for how family-supported files are read.

The main New Zealand visitor visa page covers the full route, and the New Zealand visitor visa financial requirements page explains how funds are assessed. IndoWorld gives an honest read of an application, including where the evidence looks weak, and does not promise an outcome.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance drawn from Immigration New Zealand (INZ) for an applicant whose visit is partly funded by a relative, applying for a visitor visa (the visa often called a tourist visa in India). It does not describe the case above.

  • Two ways to meet the money test. INZ says you must have enough money to live on, or an acceptable sponsor. If paying for yourself that means at least NZD 1,000 a month, or NZD 400 a month if accommodation is already paid for (INZ visitor visa).
  • The account must be the applicant’s own for the self-funded route. The evidence must show the bank account is in the applicant’s name, which bank it is with and which currency, so a relative’s account does not count as the applicant’s own funds on that route.
  • A sponsor has a process. INZ says a sponsor is responsible for the visitor while in New Zealand, completes a Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry (INZ 1025) and can provide supporting documents such as recent bank statements and pay slips. Check INZ’s “who can sponsor” rules before relying on this route for a relative who lives in India.
  • A statement from a sponsor or guarantor is listed evidence. INZ’s genuine intentions page includes a statement from a sponsor or guarantor among evidence of enough money, alongside bank statements and prepaid accommodation receipts.
  • The applicant’s own circumstances are still assessed. INZ says it looks at the strength of family relationships, and at personal, financial or work commitments, in the home country or New Zealand.
  • Use INZ’s own checklist. The visitor visa page links an INZ checklist for visitors from India staying less than 6 months, and says non-English documents must come with English translations.

For plain-language checklists, see New Zealand visitor visa documents required and the New Zealand visitor visa FAQs.

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

If an earlier New Zealand application with a relative’s support was declined, read how the letter treats funds, the sponsor and genuine intentions. The New Zealand genuine intentions row of the refusal letter wording guide reproduces INZ’s own published wording so you can set it beside your letter, and the New Zealand visitor visa refusal reasons page explains how the usual grounds are read. Compare each reason with the relative’s papers and your own, one at a time.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
