Applying for a Visa from Gujarat: Where to Go and What to Arrange
Where applicants living in Gujarat give biometrics, attend interviews and get documents ready for a visitor visa, based on official government and visa-centre pages. Official arrangements change, so every section links to the page to check before you travel. IndoWorld prepares your application at our Vadodara office or by call and video; biometrics and interviews take place at the official centres, as the destination directs.

Ahmedabad is listed as a document drop-off location on the official site, which uses these locations for interview-waiver renewals and for papers requested after a 221(g) letter. |
| Canada | Yes: Ahmedabad (IRCC list and VFS Global). | After you apply online, IRCC sends a biometric instruction letter. Biometrics are given in person at the centre. IRCC says some applicants may be asked to attend an interview. |

Where Each Step Happens
USA (B1/B2 visitor visa)
Most applicants give fingerprints and a photo at a US visa application centre before the interview. The official US appointment site lists centres in five Indian cities, and none is in Gujarat. The interview is held in person at a US Embassy or Consulate. The US Consulate General Mumbai describes its district as Western India including Gujarat. Use the official appointment site to see which interview location to book.
The official site says an interview can be skipped only in limited cases, which relate mainly to renewals; in those cases your passport and papers are handed in at a listed drop-off location. Ahmedabad is one of the listed locations, and the official site shows a delivery charge for some of them. Whether you qualify is set out on the official page. Qualifying is not a promise of a visa, and the consular officer can still ask you to attend an interview.

Canada (visitor visa)
Ahmedabad is an official Canada visa application centre, listed by IRCC and by VFS Global. After you apply online, IRCC sends a biometric instruction letter if you need to give biometrics. You book a free biometrics appointment, and give biometrics in person with the letter and your passport. If your visa is approved, IRCC will send instructions in your account on how to submit your passport.
IRCC says officials may ask some applicants to attend an interview in their country and will tell you if so. It does not describe a general interview step for visitor visas.

UK (Standard Visitor visa)

GOV.UK says you apply online, then attend an appointment to give fingerprints and a photo and hand in documents, and it warns that the centre could be in another country. Your application confirms exactly what you need to do.

Schengen (short-stay visa)
Each country’s official page says where to apply; check the one for your main destination. For the countries below, applications are handed in at VFS Global (BLS for Spain), and the official pages linked below say which mission decides. Spain’s consulate says fingerprints and a photo are captured during the application and that it may ask you to come in for an interview; check your country’s page for its own steps.
| Country | Ahmedabad centre | What the official page says about who handles Gujarat |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | Yes (VFS Global) | Consulate General Mumbai. A Schengen application can be handed in at any VFS centre in India and is sent on to Mumbai. |
| France | Yes (VFS Global) | France-Visas says visas in India are decided by the French consulates in Mumbai, Puducherry, Kolkata and Bengaluru and the Embassy visa section in Delhi; it does not name the one for Gujarat. The Consulate General in Mumbai lists Gujarat in its area. |
| Italy | Yes (VFS Global) | Consulate General Mumbai. |
| Spain | Yes (BLS Spain) | Consulate General Mumbai, through BLS. |
| Netherlands | Yes (VFS Global) | The Dutch page for India does not name the mission. It says to make your appointment at VFS Global. |

Other Schengen countries may also have an Ahmedabad centre; check the official page of your main destination.

Police Clearance Certificate From Gujarat
When you need one, and when you do not
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), a police clearance certificate (PCC) is issued to Indian passport holders for residence, employment, a long-term visa or immigration, and it cannot be issued for someone travelling abroad on a tourist visa. Your destination’s visa instructions say whether it asks for a police certificate, and which kind.
How to apply through Passport Seva
- Register on the Passport Seva portal or mobile app and choose “Apply for Police Clearance Certificate”.
- Fill in the form and submit it to receive an application reference number. A submitted form cannot be edited, so check it first.
- Pay online, then book an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). Visit the kendra within 90 days of submitting the form online, or the form has to be filled again. A printout is no longer required, but carry your original documents.
- Bring your original passport and a self-attested copy of its first two and last two pages, and proof of your present address if it has changed. This list is indicative: the passport office’s decision is final and it may ask for more. An address change or a spouse’s name can be added with proof; other differences from your passport mean the passport is re-issued first.
Fees and waiting times change, so use the official fee calculator and appointment screen. One application covers one country.

Which office covers your district
Gujarat has two Regional Passport Offices. RPO Ahmedabad covers North and Central Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Gandhinagar. RPO Surat covers South Gujarat, including Surat, Navsari and Valsad.
Full Passport Seva Kendras are listed in Ahmedabad (two), Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat. Post Office Passport Seva Kendras are listed in other places, including Gandhinagar, Anand, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Junagadh, Mehsana, Nadiad, Navsari and Valsad; the official pages give the full list, and some cases (for example changes to personal particulars) must go to a full kendra. Kendra lists change, so use the live appointment screen.
Your destination’s visa instructions say which police document it wants.

Attestation and Apostille
Some destinations ask for apostilled or attested documents for certain visa types. Your destination’s visa instructions say whether yours does.
Apostille and attestation
For documents issued in India that are used abroad, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) either puts an apostille on them, if the destination country is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, or does a normal attestation if it is not. MEA covers personal documents (such as birth and marriage certificates and affidavits) and educational documents (such as degrees and diplomas).
For documents not covered by MEA’s e-Sanad service, MEA lists two steps: authentication by the designated authority, then submission through an authorised service provider. MEA does not take documents directly from individuals and does not legalise photocopies. MEA lists the cities where this service is available, and Ahmedabad is one of them.
For Gujarat-issued documents, MEA’s list of state authorities names the General Administration Department (Protocol) in Gandhinagar. Your destination and the issuing body can tell you whether they want extra verification first.

Medical Examinations
When a medical is required
For Canada, Australia and the UK, the official pages say stays under six months generally do not need a medical or TB test, with exceptions. Other destinations are not covered here. Medicals mostly apply to longer stays and permanent residence, and each government decides for your case. The exam must be done by the government’s approved panel doctor or clinic; certificates from other clinics are not accepted. Your application tells you whether you need one.
Approved clinics shown for Gujarat on official lists
| Destination | Ahmedabad | Surat |
|---|---|---|
| Canada (IRCC panel physicians) | KD Hospital; Apollo Hospitals (Bhat) | None listed |
| Australia (Home Affairs) | KD Hospital; Apollo Hospitals (Bhat) | Apollo Clinic (Adajan) |
| UK TB test (GOV.UK) | KD Hospital; Apollo Hospitals (Bhat) | Apollo Clinic (Adajan) |
None of the three lists shows a clinic in Vadodara or Rajkot. These lists change, so open the live official list before booking.
