REPRESENTATIVE CASE STUDY

Australia Visitor Visa Case: Salaried Applicant, Conference and Tourism

A representative case involving a salaried applicant preparing an Australia Visitor visa application combining conference attendance with personal tourism.

This is a representative, anonymised case study. It is not a real client experience or testimonial (real client accounts are on the Client Experiences pages), and it does not state a specific visa decision. Identifying details are omitted or generalised; the case illustrates the type of preparation work and reasoning IndoWorld applies to this kind of application.

WHAT THIS ILLUSTRATES

What This Case Illustrates

This case illustrates why a dual-purpose trip needs one clear, internally consistent itinerary rather than two separate stories. See the IndoWorld Application Intelligence Framework for more on this reasoning.

Our Australia Visitor stream guide is the most relevant read on choosing the right stream when a trip mixes a conference with tourism. See Australia visitor visa for the wider route, and our Australia visitor visa consultant in Gujarat page for remote support across the state.

LIMITS OF THIS CASE

What This Case Does Not Prove

This representative case is not evidence of an approval probability or success rate, and it is not a guarantee of any outcome. It does not describe a real client’s decision, timeline or result, and it should not be read as a prediction for any other applicant. See the other Australia visitor visa representative case studies for differently structured examples.

It does not show that a combined conference-and-tourism application is assessed more or less favourably than a single-purpose one. Home Affairs states that the Business Visitor stream covers taking part in a conference, trade fair or seminar (without being paid by the organisers) and tourist activities, but the right stream and evidence for any real trip depend on the applicant’s actual purpose.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance from the Australian Department of Home Affairs for a salaried applicant attending a conference and then taking a holiday in Australia on a Visitor visa (subclass 600), the visa people often call a tourist visa. It is not a description of the case above.

  • The stream follows the purpose. The Business Visitor stream covers general business enquiries, negotiating contracts, and taking part in a conference, trade fair or seminar without being paid by the organisers, and also tourist activities. The Tourist stream is for any purpose except business or medical treatment. Pick the stream that matches the main purpose.
  • Business Visitor documents. Home Affairs lists examples: an invitation from a host organisation, conference registration details, a letter from the employer stating why you are visiting, plans for your stay, proof of current employment and qualifications.
  • Both streams ask the same core questions. You must have enough money for the stay, be a genuine visitor who intends to stay temporarily and obey visa conditions, and meet the health and character requirements.
  • Return-home evidence. Examples listed include a letter from the employer stating they expect you to return to your job, close family in your home country, evidence of your right to return, and property or other assets there.
  • No work. The Business Visitor stream says you cannot work for or provide services to a business or organisation based in Australia, or sell goods or services to the public.
  • One plan. Home Affairs asks for your plans while in Australia as part of the genuine visitor documents, so conference days and holiday days belong in one clear schedule.

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

If a conference-and-tourism application was refused, the letter will name the criterion it relies on. Look for be a genuine visitor and enough money to support yourself, and read the review-rights sentence for what Home Affairs says you can do next. Compare the stated reason with the stream you applied under and the documents you attached. The Australia visitor visa refusal reasons page explains the grounds.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? You can email it and go through it with IndoWorld experts on a video call, a phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. They read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. See how to get your visitor / tourist visa refusal letter reviewed.
