Australia Visitor Visa Case: Self-Employed Applicant, Family Visit
A representative case involving a self-employed applicant preparing an Australia Visitor visa application to visit family.
This is a representative, anonymised case study. It is not a real client experience or testimonial (real client accounts are on the Client Experiences pages), and it does not state a specific visa decision. Identifying details are omitted or generalised; the case illustrates the type of preparation work and reasoning IndoWorld applies to this kind of application.

Decision Status
This representative case does not state a decision outcome, lodgement date or processing time. It describes the preparation stage only; the decision on any application rests solely with the Department of Home Affairs.
What This Case Illustrates
This case illustrates why self-employment income needs a clear, traceable connection to bank activity. See the IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework for more on this reasoning.
Small-business owners can read our self-employed applicant visa preparation guide on linking business income to bank records. See the main Australia visitor visa page for the full process, or our Gujarat Australia visitor visa page if you are visiting family in Australia from Gujarat.
What This Case Does Not Prove
This representative case is not evidence of an approval probability or success rate, and it is not a guarantee of any outcome. It does not describe a real client’s decision, timeline or result, and it should not be read as a prediction for any other applicant. See the other Australia visitor visa representative case studies for differently structured examples.
It does not show how any decision-maker assesses business income or that a particular way of presenting income is enough. The official Tourist stream page asks for enough money to support yourself and gives examples such as itemised bank statements, audited accounts and tax records; it does not publish a minimum amount.
What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from the Australian Department of Home Affairs for a self-employed applicant visiting family in Australia on a Visitor visa (subclass 600), the visa people often call a tourist visa. It does not describe the case above.
- How income is shown. The Tourist stream page lists itemised personal bank statements for a three-month period, pay slips, audited accounts, tax records, term deposits and credit card statements as examples of proof of enough money. It says these are examples and publishes no minimum amount.
- Business income and bank records. Audited accounts and tax records appear in that list, so a self-employed applicant can connect business income to the statements through them.
- Family host. A relative’s invitation could state the relationship, the purpose and length of the visit, and whether you will stay with them; if they will pay for your stay, Home Affairs asks for proof of their funds.
- Genuine visitor. You must intend to stay temporarily and obey the visa conditions; the page lists plans in Australia and reasons to return home, including immediate family at home and a house or other major assets.
- Name the right stream. If a relative acts as a formal sponsor, the Sponsored Family stream applies; if they only support the trip, the Tourist stream with an invitation letter.
- Accuracy. Providing accurate information states that documents must be genuine, verifiable and unaltered.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
If a self-employed applicant was refused, check which requirement the letter relies on, enough money to support yourself or be a genuine visitor, and what it says about review (review-rights sentence). The two call for different evidence: statements, audited accounts and tax records for money; family, business continuity and property for genuine visit. The Australia visitor visa refusal reasons page explains the grounds.
Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
