At a Glance
The Applicant’s Situation
An Indian parent had previously received a Canadian visitor visa refusal, and the family was considering a Super Visa application.
What the Assessment Identified
The refusal reasons were reviewed alongside the parent’s circumstances, the host’s eligibility and financial evidence, and the Super Visa requirements.
Key Focus of This Case
A different visa category does not automatically remove the concerns raised in an earlier application.
What IndoWorld Actually Did
- Reviewed the reasons given for the earlier refusal
- Assessed the proposed application using the actual facts and supporting evidence
- Addressed the relevant concerns from the earlier refusal in the evidence
- Checked the host and financial evidence against the Super Visa requirements
Evidence and Documentation Considered
- The earlier refusal and its stated reasons
- The parent’s circumstances
- The host’s eligibility and financial evidence
- The Super Visa requirements
Where This Case Reached
The proposed Super Visa application was assessed against the earlier refusal reasons and the Super Visa requirements.
What This Case Demonstrates
The lesson is to understand the refusal reasons and then assess the new route’s requirements, rather than simply changing visa categories. The IndoWorld Refusal-to-Remedy Framework and the previous visa refusal preparation guide describe this reasoning.
IndoWorld’s guidance follows the guidelines IRCC publishes on its website; the decision on every application rests with IRCC. IndoWorld gives an honest read of whether the earlier reasons are likely to carry over, including when they are, and nothing here is a promise of approval. The Canada visitor visa vs Super Visa guide compares the two routes.
What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from IRCC for a parent considering a Super Visa after a Canadian visitor visa refusal. It does not describe the case above.
- Reapplying depends on why. IRCC’s help centre answer on visitor visa refusals says whether to apply again depends on the reasons for the refusal and whether the situation has changed, and that resubmitting the same information is unlikely to change the outcome.
- The Super Visa is its own route. The Super Visa overview sets separate requirements, yet the eligibility page still applies the general visitor tests: a genuine visitor who will leave by choice, ties to the home country, the purpose of the visit, and family and finances.
- New things must be shown. A Super Visa file adds the host’s minimum necessary income on the proof of financial support page, health insurance and a medical exam, which an ordinary visitor application does not ask for in the same way.
- Read the explanation first. The after you apply page says that if an application is refused, IRCC sends an explanation. IndoWorld’s guide to GCMS notes and ATIP requests covers the officer’s notes.
- Be truthful and complete. Section 16 of the Act requires truthful answers and the evidence an officer reasonably requires, and an earlier refusal is part of the application history.
- Reapplying is not the only step. IRCC’s help centre answer says an applicant who believes a decision was unfair can ask the Federal Court of Canada for judicial review, which is a legal step separate from a new application.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
If a Canadian visitor visa application was refused before a Super Visa is considered, start with the letter. Find each reason the officer gave, for example that the applicant will not depart Canada at the end of the authorized stay, that the purpose of the visit is not consistent with a temporary stay, or that there are no significant family ties outside Canada, and then see whether the new file answers that line with documents instead of explanation. Funds lines such as assets and financial situation, sufficient funds or origin of funds should be compared with the host’s evidence and the parent’s own records. The full wording guide lists the Canada rows.
Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
