Canada Visitor Visa Case: Short-Notice Medical Visit
A representative case involving a salaried applicant preparing a short-notice Canada visitor visa application to accompany a family member for a medical situation.
Applicant names and identifying details have been withheld or generalized to protect client confidentiality. This case study describes the type of application work handled by IndoWorld and the preparation approach used, without disclosing personally identifying information or a specific visa decision.
At a Glance
The Applicant’s Situation
The applicant needed to travel to Canada on relatively short notice to accompany a family member during a medical situation, without the usual lead time to plan the trip.
What the Assessment Identified
The initial review found that the time pressure meant the purpose of travel and supporting circumstances needed to be explained clearly and promptly, since a short-notice application can otherwise look under-documented.
Key Focus of This Case
Clearly documenting the reason for urgency and organizing the available evidence quickly without omitting anything material.
What IndoWorld Actually Did
- Gathered and organized available medical and family-relationship evidence under time pressure
- Prepared a cover letter explaining the reason for the short-notice travel
- Reviewed employment leave arrangements for the trip
- Checked the completed application for consistency before submission
Evidence and Documentation Considered
- Family relationship evidence
- Available medical-context documentation
- Employer leave confirmation
- Financial evidence for the trip
Where This Case Reached
The application was prepared under time constraints and submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for decision.
What This Case Demonstrates
This case shows that urgency does not have to mean under-preparation — the same core evidence categories still need to be addressed, just organized more quickly. See the IndoWorld Application Intelligence Framework for more on this reasoning.

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from IRCC and Canadian law for a salaried applicant who must travel at short notice to accompany a family member through a medical situation on a Canada visitor visa (the temporary resident visa, often called a tourist visa). It is not a description of the case above.
- Urgency does not change the requirements. The eligibility page applies to every visitor: ties such as a job, home, financial assets or family; leaving at the end of the visit; and enough money, which depends on the length of stay and where you will stay.
- Medical costs are the visitor’s to plan for. IRCC’s help centre states that Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors and that visitors should get health insurance before coming. Funds evidence should reflect that.
- Medical exam. IRCC’s medical exam page says people staying six months or less generally do not need an immigration medical exam unless they plan to work in certain jobs, and that the visa office tells you if one is needed. Do not assume one is or is not required for your own situation.
- Biometrics early. IRCC’s after-you-apply page advises booking the biometrics appointment as soon as you can to avoid processing delays. Processing times, it notes, depend on the visa office and any extra steps.
- Job and leave. A job is one of the ties named on the eligibility page, so employer leave confirmation for a fixed period supports the point that you will return.
- Relationship and purpose. If the person in Canada writes an invitation, IRCC’s letter of invitation page lists what to include (relationship, purpose, length of stay, where the visitor will stay and how they will pay) and says a letter does not decide the outcome.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
If a short-notice application was refused, look first for the sentence on the purpose of the visit (purpose is not consistent with a temporary stay) and for any comment on whether assets and financial situation support the stated purpose or the applicant will depart at the end of the authorized stay. Read those against the officer decision note, which IRCC sends with most temporary resident refusals. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons page explains the grounds further.
Have a refusal letter in front of you? You can email it and go through it with IndoWorld experts on a video call, a phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. They read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. See how to get your visitor / tourist visa refusal letter reviewed.
