At a Glance
The Applicant’s Situation
The applicant was retired and planned to visit an adult child settled in Canada. Income was primarily from pension and retirement savings rather than active employment.
What the Assessment Identified
The initial review found that retirement income needed to be presented differently from salaried income, with a clearer explanation of its source and stability.
Key Focus of This Case
Explaining retirement income and savings in a way that clearly demonstrated ongoing financial stability without an active employer.
What IndoWorld Actually Did

- Prepared a clear written explanation of the applicant’s income sources
- Coordinated the invitation and relationship evidence with the adult child in Canada
- Reviewed the overall application for internal consistency
Evidence and Documentation Considered
- Pension and retirement savings statements
- Property and residence evidence in the home country
- Invitation and relationship evidence
- Travel itinerary
Where This Case Reached
The application was prepared and submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for decision.
What This Case Demonstrates
This case shows why retirement-income cases need their own explanation rather than being documented the same way as salaried employment. See the IndoWorld Application Intelligence Framework for more on this reasoning.

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from IRCC and Canadian law for a retired applicant visiting an adult child in Canada on a Canada visitor visa (the temporary resident visa, often called a tourist visa). It is not a description of the case above.
- Retirement does not change the three questions. IRCC’s eligibility page asks for ties (job, home, financial assets or family), leaving at the end of the visit, and enough money. For a retired applicant, home, financial assets and family are the ties that remain.
- Money for the stay. IRCC says the amount depends on the length of stay and whether you stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives. Pension and savings records should be tied to that plan.
- Length of stay. Under section 183 of the Regulations an officer fixes the authorized period (six months, unless another period is set) based on means of support, the period applied for and the passport’s expiry.
- Visit or Super Visa? The Super Visa is a separate IRCC route for parents and grandparents. IRCC’s medical exam page lists the Super Visa among cases that need a medical exam, while visitors staying six months or less generally do not, unless the visa office says otherwise.
- Host letter. The letter of invitation page lists the details a host should give, and says the letter does not decide the outcome.
- Health costs. IRCC states that Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors and that visitors should arrange health insurance before coming.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
If a retired applicant’s file was refused, look for the sentence about assets and financial situation, any comment on leaving at the end of the authorized stay, and how family is described (family in Canada, family outside Canada). Lay the pension statements, property papers and family documents beside each sentence. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons guide covers the grounds.
Have a refusal letter in front of you? IndoWorld experts read it and compare it with the application that was refused. Documents are sent by email, the review is held by video call, phone call or at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Start from the refusal letter review page.
