At a Glance
The Applicant’s Situation
The applicant ran a small business and planned to travel to Canada to visit an immediate family member. This was the applicant’s first application for a Canada visitor visa.
What the Assessment Identified
The initial review found that the applicant’s business income was not presented in a way that clearly connected to the bank records, and the relationship to the host in Canada needed clearer supporting evidence.
Key Focus of This Case
Presenting self-employment income in a way that was consistent, traceable, and clearly linked to the applicant’s bank activity.
What IndoWorld Actually Did
- Reviewed the applicant’s business registration and income records
- Organized bank statements to align with declared business income
- Coordinated the invitation and relationship documentation with the host in Canada
- Prepared a cover letter setting out the purpose of travel and ties to the home country
- Cross-checked the application form against supporting documents for consistency
Evidence and Documentation Considered
- Business registration and income evidence
- Bank statements and transaction history
- Invitation and relationship evidence from the host
- Travel itinerary
Where This Case Reached
The application was prepared, reviewed for consistency, and submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for decision.
What This Case Demonstrates
This case illustrates why self-employment income needs to be presented with a clear, traceable connection to bank activity rather than left for the officer to infer. See the IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework for more on this reasoning.
For more on presenting business income that traces back to bank activity, see our self-employed applicant visa preparation guide. The main Canada visitor visa page sets out the full route, and small-business owners elsewhere in Gujarat can reach us through the Gujarat Canada visitor visa page.
What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from IRCC and Canadian law for a self-employed applicant visiting close family in Canada on a Canada visitor visa (the temporary resident visa, often called a tourist visa). It does not describe the case above.
- The host’s letter. IRCC’s letter of invitation page lists relationship, purpose, length of stay, where the visitor will stay and how they will pay, with a document proving the host’s status in Canada. It also says a letter does not decide the visa outcome.
- Ties for a business owner. The eligibility page gives a job, home, financial assets or family as ties that take you back home. For a self-employed applicant, business papers can speak to the first and third.
- Enough money. IRCC’s eligibility page gives no fixed amount; it depends on the length of stay and whether the visitor stays with relatives. Bank statements should be consistent with the income and plans described in the application.
- Produce what is reasonably asked. Section 16 of the Act requires an applicant to answer truthfully and produce the relevant evidence and documents an officer reasonably requires. IRCC may also ask for an interview or more information (after you apply).
- The documents list is personal. The online checklist depends on your answers; see how to apply. Check also for any extra requirements for your country or visa office.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
If a self-employed applicant was refused, the notice may refer to funds (not enough supporting documents on sufficient funds or insufficient evidence of the origin of these funds) or to ties (family ties in Canada). Compare each with the business records and bank statements submitted. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons guide explains these grounds.
Have a refusal letter in front of you? IndoWorld experts read it and compare it with the application that was refused. Documents are sent by email, the review is held by video call, phone call or at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Start from the refusal letter review page.
