Canada Visitor Visa Case: Sponsor-Supported Parent Visiting an Adult Child
A representative case involving a parent applicant whose visit to Canada was financially supported by an adult child already settled there.
Applicant names and identifying details have been withheld or generalized to protect client confidentiality. This case study describes the type of application work handled by IndoWorld and the preparation approach used, without disclosing personally identifying information or a specific visa decision.
At a Glance
The Applicant’s Situation
The applicant had modest personal income and planned to visit an adult child in Canada, with the trip financially supported by that child.
What the Assessment Identified
The initial review found that the sponsor’s own financial capacity and relationship needed to be documented as thoroughly as the applicant’s own file, rather than treating the applicant’s limited income as the only relevant fact.
Key Focus of This Case
Documenting the sponsor’s financial capacity and the relationship to the applicant with the same care as the applicant’s own evidence.
What IndoWorld Actually Did
- Reviewed the sponsor’s income and bank records
- Prepared a sponsorship and relationship declaration
- Organized the applicant’s own limited financial evidence for context
- Drafted a cover letter explaining the sponsorship arrangement
Evidence and Documentation Considered
- Sponsor’s bank statements and income evidence
- Relationship evidence between applicant and sponsor
- Applicant’s own financial and identity documents
- Invitation letter from the sponsor
Where This Case Reached
The application was prepared and submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for decision.
What This Case Demonstrates
This case shows why sponsored travel needs the sponsor’s side of the story documented as clearly as the applicant’s own file. See the IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework for more on this reasoning.
If a child in Canada is supporting the visit, our Canada visitor visa invitation letter page is the most relevant read on how a host’s role is usually documented. What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from IRCC and Canadian law for a parent visiting an adult child in Canada, with the trip supported by that child, on a Canada visitor visa (the temporary resident visa, often called a tourist visa). It does not describe the case above.
- Start with what the letter should say. IRCC’s letter of invitation page lists the details of the person invited (name, date of birth, address) and of the host (address in Canada, job title, status in Canada with a supporting document, family details), plus the relationship, the purpose of the trip, the length of stay, where the visitor will stay and how they will pay for things.
- A letter helps but does not decide. IRCC says an invitation does not mean a visa will be issued: officers assess whether you meet Canadian immigration law. The host must tell the truth and intend to keep the promises made in the letter.
- The visitor still must show ties and funds. The eligibility page says an applicant must convince an officer of ties that will take them home, of leaving at the end of the visit, and of having enough money, which depends on how long they stay and whether with relatives. A host’s support does not remove the first two points.
- Know which route you are on. IRCC runs a separate Super Visa for parents and grandparents, with its own requirements; the letter-of-invitation page says a letter for a parent or grandparent must include a promise of financial support for the visit and the list and number of people in the family size calculation. Check which page applies before gathering documents.
- Truthful and complete. Section 16 of the Act requires truthful answers and the evidence an officer reasonably requires; the checklist in the portal states what to upload.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
In refusals of parents visiting children, the notice may turn on whether the applicant has family or other ties at home. Look for the lines on no significant family ties outside Canada and significant family ties in Canada, and for wording on sufficient funds or assets and financial situation. Each can be compared with the host’s papers and the applicant’s own papers separately. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons guide explains these grounds.

Documents are sent by email, the review is held by video call, phone call or at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Start from the refusal letter review page.
