APPLICANT SITUATION

The Applicant’s Situation

The applicant’s spouse was the principal applicant for a family-visit visitor visa, and the applicant needed to be included as an accompanying dependant on the same application.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT

What the Assessment Identified

The initial review found that relationship evidence between the spouses needed to be clearly documented alongside the principal applicant’s own evidence.

FOCUS AREA

Key Focus of This Case

Documenting the marital relationship clearly and ensuring both applicants’ information was consistent across the joint application.

CASE-HANDLING WORK

What IndoWorld Actually Did

  • Reviewed marriage certificate and relationship evidence
  • Coordinated both applicants’ personal and financial information for consistency
  • Prepared the accompanying-applicant sections of the application
  • Reviewed the joint application for internal consistency
EVIDENCE CONSIDERED

Evidence and Documentation Considered

  • Marriage certificate
  • Joint travel itinerary
  • Combined financial evidence
PROCESS STAGE

Where This Case Reached

The joint application, including the accompanying spouse, was prepared and submitted for decision.

WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES

What This Case Demonstrates

This case shows why a joint family application needs both applicants’ information to tell one consistent story, not two separate ones. See the IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework for more on this reasoning.

OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

IRCC explains how families apply for a visitor visa together. These points come from its pages and are general guidance, not a description of a real application.

  • One application per person. IRCC’s help centre says one visa application cannot cover a whole family: each person completes and signs their own application form, a parent or guardian signs for anyone under 18, and the applications can be sent together with one payment receipt. • Family Information form. The same help centre answer says each applicant aged 18 or older must also complete the Family Information form. IRCC Help Centre: family applications ↗
  • Purpose and invitation. For a visit to relatives, IRCC asks for a letter of invitation, and for proof of the relationship with the person inviting; a marriage certificate or birth certificate are listed examples. IRCC: how to apply for a visitor visa ↗
  • Funds. A bank statement helps show that the applicant has enough money to support themselves during the stay, and IRCC recommends it covers a period of months rather than a single date. IRCC: how to apply for a visitor visa ↗
  • Children travelling. A minor child needs a letter authorising travel, and the other documents depend on whether the child travels alone or not. IRCC: how to apply for a visitor visa ↗
IF AN APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused – what to look for in the letter

Because each person files their own application, each person’s refusal letter is read separately, even if the reasons look alike. Look for the sentence that explains the doubt: the purpose of the visit, funds, or family ties abroad and in Canada. The visitor / tourist visa refusal letter wording guide explains Canadian sentences such as “not satisfied that the applicant will depart Canada”, “assets and financial situation are insufficient” and “does not have significant family ties outside Canada”. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons and dependent visa pages cover the wider picture.

Have a refusal letter in front of you?

If a visitor visa application for you or a family member was refused, you can email the letter and the application documents to IndoWorld. IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. The review can be done by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Get your refusal letter reviewed.
