What This Case Demonstrates
This case shows why an event-specific trip benefits from every document matching the same fixed timeline. See the IndoWorld Application Intelligence Framework for more on this reasoning.
For fixed-date events, the UK visitor visa invitation letter page is the most useful companion to this case. See the main UK visitor visa page for the complete process, and our UK visitor visa consultant in Gujarat page if you are travelling to a family wedding from Gujarat.
What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from official UK government sources for a salaried applicant travelling to the UK for a family wedding on a Standard Visitor visa, the visa often called a tourist visa in everyday use. It does not describe the case above.
- Guest or bride and groom? The rules separate the two. The Standard Visitor page lists seeing family or friends as a permitted activity. Marrying, forming a civil partnership or giving notice in the UK needs a Marriage Visitor visa, with evidence such as a registrar appointment (supporting documents guide, section 11; Appendix V, V 4.4(d)).
- Job and leave. The guide gives a letter from the employer on headed paper, detailing role, salary and length of employment, as an example of evidence of circumstances at home. It is an example, not a mandatory form.
- Who is paying. If the host family covers travel, maintenance or accommodation, the guide asks for evidence of what is provided, how, the host’s own funds, the relationship and the host’s lawful UK status. Bookings are not the main proof: hotel and flight bookings appear on the guide’s list of documents that are less useful as evidence.
- Plans should be plausible, not elaborate. The caseworker guidance says visa applicants are not required to provide an itinerary, but should normally have some plans for the stay and give information about them on the form.
- Travel history helps, but is not alone. The same guidance says a record of complying with UK and other countries’ immigration laws may point to a genuine visitor, that travel history should not be the only consideration, and that a first-time traveller must rely on other evidence.
- Funds. There is no set level. Income or savings, minus ongoing commitments such as rent, mortgage and dependants, must cover the likely costs of the trip, and funds held only briefly may lead to questions about their origin.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
After a refusal for a short family trip, check whether the notice relies on the genuine-visitor sentence (not satisfied that you are a genuine visitor who will leave the UK) or on economic ties (the ties that would necessitate your departure), and whether anything is said about the accuracy of what was presented (accurately presented). The caseworker guidance lists several factors that are weighed together, not the invitation alone. The UK visitor visa refusal reasons guide sets out the usual grounds.

Documents are sent by email, the review is held by video call, phone call or at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Start from the refusal letter review page.
