When Your Income Comes From the Family Firm

A large share of the people who approach us from Surat do not receive a salary slip. They run, or belong to, a family business: a textile trading house, a weaving or processing unit, a diamond cutting and polishing workshop, or a dealership handed down from a father or uncle. These are solid livelihoods, yet on paper they can look confusing to an officer in Wellington or Auckland who has never seen a Surat partnership deed or a family HUF account.

IndoWorld Visa and Education Services is based in Vadodara and works with Surat applicants remotely, by video call, WhatsApp and email. There is no need to travel; what we need is time with your documents and a willingness to explain how money moves in your family. The general rules of the category are on our New Zealand Visitor Visa page, and the Gujarat statewide page explains how we work across the state.

MAKING BUSINESS INCOME READABLE

Turning Business Paperwork Into a Clear Financial Picture

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) needs to see that you can pay for the visit and that you have strong reasons to return. For a trader, both answers sit inside the business, which is exactly why they are easy to lose in a pile of ledgers. We work from the top down: who owns the firm, what the applicant’s share or role is, what the firm earns over recent years, and how money reaches the personal account that pays for the trip.

In practice that means pairing GST registration and returns with the firm’s current account, placing partner capital or drawings next to personal ITRs, and writing a short cover note that ties each figure to the next. Cash-heavy trade, common in some wholesale markets, needs special care: deposits that cannot be traced to declared income weaken a file, however large the balance. Our self-employed applicant preparation guide walks through the same logic, and the self-employed family-visit case shows how a small business owner’s income was set out for a trip to see relatives.

TYPICAL SURAT PROFILES

Situations We Help Surat Applicants Prepare For

✓
Partner in a textile trading firm
Partnership deed, firm ITR and GST returns, plus the partner’s own ITR and capital account, show both ownership and a steady share of profit.
✓
Diamond unit owner or family member
Registration, bank activity and income tax records carry more weight than stock valuations. We avoid relying on figures that cannot be verified.
✓
Parents from a business family
Older parents may have handed over daily work to their sons. Their own savings, rent or share income, as in our retired applicant case, often tells the story better.
✓
Young family members joining the trade
A son or daughter recently joining the firm may have a short income record. We show their role, the family’s support and why they return.
DOCUMENTS FOR BUSINESS OWNERS

Papers That Help Explain a Family Business

Our New Zealand documents page gives the general list; these are the business-specific items we most often request from Surat clients.

✓GST registration certificate and recent returns for the firm
✓Partnership deed, proprietorship registration or company documents
✓Two to three years of firm and personal income tax returns
✓Business current account statements showing regular trade
✓Personal savings account statement used to fund the trip
✓A short note explaining who manages the business while you travel
✓Host invitation or hotel bookings and a planned return date
FUNDS AND SPONSORS

How Much to Show, and When a Relative Can Sponsor

INZ’s published minimum for self-funded visitors is NZD $1,000 per month of stay, or NZD $400 per month when accommodation is paid in advance. The figure should be backed by money that has been in your account for a while, not a sum moved across from the firm the week before. If relatives in New Zealand are covering the trip, a sponsor who is a New Zealand citizen or resident can complete the Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry (INZ 1025). You also need a ticket out of New Zealand or the means to buy one.

Where a previous application was declined because funds were unclear, do not simply add more statements. Read what the officer actually said, then fix that specific point. Our previous visa refusal preparation guide and the page on New Zealand refusal reasons explain how.

WORKING REMOTELY

How Surat Clients Work With Us

1
Family discussion
A video call with the traveller and, often, whoever handles the firm’s accounts.
2
Accountant coordination
With your permission we tell your CA exactly which statements and returns to prepare.
3
Financial summary
We build a one-page explanation linking firm, owner and trip funds.
4
Lodgement
The online application is filed, and we help with any follow-up INZ requests.
GOT QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a partner in a textile firm. Whose income should I show?▲
Show your own share: the partnership deed, your capital account, personal ITR and the account paying for the trip. Firm-level documents then support that picture rather than replace it.
Can a GST return prove my income for New Zealand?▲
GST returns show business turnover, which is useful, but not personal income. Pair them with income tax returns and bank records that show what you actually earn.
Our business handles a lot of cash. Is that a problem?▲
Cash itself is not the issue; untraceable deposits are. Funds shown for the trip should match income declared in tax returns and be visible in bank records over time.
Who runs the shop while I am away? Does INZ care?▲
A short explanation of who manages the business in your absence helps show the trip is temporary and that you have a reason to return.
Can my brother in New Zealand pay for our trip?▲
Yes. If he is a New Zealand citizen or resident he can formally sponsor you using INZ’s INZ 1025 form, supported by evidence of his own finances.
Do I need to visit your office from Surat?▲
No. We work with Surat clients by phone, video and email, and the New Zealand application is submitted online.
