APPLICANT SITUATION

The Applicant’s Situation

An Indian self-employed applicant used more than one account for personal and business transactions before planning a visit to Canada.

The statements showed transfers that could be mistaken for additional income or unexplained funds if read without context.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT

What the Assessment Identified

Account ownership, transaction dates, business records and the source and destination of material transfers were compared to avoid double-counting the same money.

FOCUS AREA

Key Focus of This Case

Tracing material transfers so that the same funds are not counted more than once.

CASE-HANDLING WORK

What IndoWorld Actually Did

  • Compared account ownership, transaction dates, business records and the source and destination of material transfers
  • Arranged the available records to explain material movements clearly
  • Did not describe transfers as new income unless the evidence supported that conclusion
EVIDENCE CONSIDERED

Evidence and Documentation Considered

  • Statements from the accounts used
  • Business records
  • Transaction dates and the source and destination of material transfers
  • Account ownership details
PROCESS STAGE

Where This Case Reached

The records were arranged so that each material movement of money could be followed from its source to its destination.

WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES

What This Case Demonstrates

Account transfers should be traced and explained; the same funds should not be counted several times as separate resources. IndoWorld gives an honest read of how the statements look to an outside reader before an application is filed. IndoWorld’s guidance follows the guidelines IRCC publishes on its website; the decision on every application rests with IRCC. See the IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework for more on this reasoning.

The Canada visitor visa proof of funds and source of funds guides cover the topic in more detail. The sibling case on a self-employed applicant with combined business and tourism deals with separating business and personal transactions from another angle.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance from IRCC and Canadian law for a self-employed person applying for a Canada visitor visa (the temporary resident visa, often called a tourist visa in everyday use). It does not describe the case above.

  • Enough money for the stay. IRCC says you must have enough money for your stay, and that the amount depends on how long you stay and on whether you stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives (IRCC: eligibility).
  • Statements show history. IRCC says a bank statement can help show whether you have enough money to support yourself in Canada, recommends account details covering at least six months, and says the statement should show your name and address (IRCC: how to apply). Transfers inside that period are visible to the officer.
  • Your own checklist rules. When you apply online you get a personalized document checklist, you should provide every document on it, and the visa office may ask for more (IRCC: how to apply). IRCC may ask for further information, and an incomplete application may be refused (IRCC: after you apply).
  • Ties include financial assets. IRCC lists a job, home, financial assets or family as examples of ties that must convince the officer you will leave Canada at the end of your visit (IRCC: eligibility).
  • The legal test. A visa is issued if it is established that the applicant will leave Canada by the end of the authorized stay and meets the other requirements (IRPR section 179), and statements of funds are evidence on that question.
  • Full and truthful answers. An applicant must answer truthfully and produce the evidence an officer reasonably requires (IRPA section 16), and misrepresenting or withholding material facts is a ground of inadmissibility (IRPA section 40).

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

IRCC says the explanation of a refusal appears in your IRCC account and that most temporary resident refusals come with an officer decision note. Read both together. For a funds concern, look for wording like has not submitted enough supporting documents to satisfy me that the applicant has access to sufficient funds, insufficient evidence regarding the origin of these funds or assets and financial situation insufficient for the stated purpose. Then compare each reason with what the statements showed and how transfers were explained. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons guide explains the common grounds.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
