APPLICANT SITUATION

The Applicant’s Situation

A salaried applicant from India planned a visit to the UK. The income reflected in the tax documents did not exactly match the applicant’s current salary records.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT

What the Assessment Identified

The application needed to distinguish differences caused by timing, income components or other real circumstances from genuine inconsistencies. A gap between two documents is not the same thing as a contradiction, but it has to be understood before the file is put together.

FOCUS AREA

Key Focus of This Case

Working out what each record actually represented, so that every difference in the financial documents could be explained from the records themselves.

CASE-HANDLING WORK

What IndoWorld Actually Did

  • Compared employment records, salary credits, tax documents and the period each one covered
  • Established what each record represented, so that timing and income-component differences could be told apart from genuine inconsistencies
  • Organised the documents with a concise factual explanation where one was necessary, supported by records
  • Kept the explanation to what the records show, with nothing added to make the figures line up
EVIDENCE CONSIDERED

Evidence and Documentation Considered

  • Employment records
  • Salary credits
  • Tax documents
  • The period each document covers
PROCESS STAGE

Where This Case Reached

The documents were organised and reviewed as described above. This representative case does not describe a decision; the decision on every UK visitor visa application rests with the Home Office.

WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES

What This Case Demonstrates

Different financial documents may cover different periods or income concepts, so genuine differences are better explained than ignored. This case shows why the first step is to understand each record, not to change it. See the IndoWorld Refusal-to-Remedy Framework and the application contradiction guide for how differences between documents are read.

The main UK visitor visa page covers the full route, and the UK visitor visa financial requirements page explains how funds are assessed. IndoWorld gives an honest read of an application, including where the evidence looks weak, and does not promise an outcome.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance drawn from official UK government sources for a salaried applicant applying for a UK Standard Visitor visa (the visitor / tourist visa) whose financial documents show different figures. It does not describe the case above.

  • Declared income and evidence should correspond. The caseworker guidance says there should be a correlation between what the applicant declares on the form, such as income, and the evidence supplied, and that financial documents should confirm the declared income and show sufficient funds, for example bank statements that detail the origin of the funds held.
  • The form asks for a yearly figure. The online application asks how much you earn in a year, if you have an income, so a figure that appears on the form is one the papers will be read against.
  • Proof of earnings has a named shape. The Home Office guide to supporting documents gives proof of earnings as, for example, a letter from the employer confirming employment details such as start date, salary, role and company contact details.
  • Funds are measured after commitments. The caseworker guidance says income or savings, minus financial commitments such as rent or mortgage payments and dependants, must be enough for the likely costs of the stay, and there is no set level of funds required.
  • Recently arrived money invites questions. Where funds look sufficient but all or most have not been in the account for long, the guidance says the caseworker may check the origin of the money, which is why a salary history that can be followed matters.
  • Old documents are less useful. The guide lists bank statements or letters issued more than 1 year before the application among documents of less use, and notes its list is not exhaustive. Under Appendix V (V 4.2(e)) funds relied on must be held in a financial institution permitted under Appendix Finance.

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

If an earlier UK application was refused and the letter refers to money, start with the opening sentence about paragraph V 4.2 of Appendix V (see that wording) and read the reason that follows it. Check whether the letter says the statement does not match your declared income and spending, speaks of a clear discrepancy between your documents and your stated circumstances, or says the documents do not demonstrate the origin of funds. Set each reason beside the documents that were submitted, one at a time. The wording guide draws its UK sentences from published tribunal decisions, and the UK visitor visa refusal reasons page explains the usual grounds.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
