Canada Super Visa Processing Time from India

What a Super Visa processing time measures, what can add time, and where to check IRCC's current estimate

Current Processing Time Estimates

IRCC publishes Super Visa processing times for each country in its processing times tool. IRCC explains that the figure is how long it expects to take to process an application received today, and that the times are not a maximum or a guarantee: your application may take longer. IRCC's Super Visa page adds that processing depends on the visa office and on whether you need to take extra steps, and that the processing time shown does not include the time you need to give biometrics. We do not quote a number here because it changes and does not predict your own timeline.

Factors That Affect Processing Time

Completeness of application: An incomplete application, or a request from IRCC for more documents, can add time. Review the complete Super Visa documents checklist carefully before submitting.

Medical examination: IRCC requires a medical exam with an approved panel physician for a Super Visa. Appointment availability and the exam itself take time, so plan for it and follow IRCC's instructions on when to do it.

Biometrics: IRCC says you may need to give biometrics with your application. Booking and attending the appointment takes time that IRCC does not count in its Super Visa processing time. IRCC also states that a Super Visa cannot be issued for longer than your biometrics are valid.

Other requests: IRCC states that it may ask for an interview, additional documents, a medical exam or a police certificate during processing. Any of these can lengthen the overall wait, and how long depends on your file. See IRCC – after you apply.

When to Apply

Check IRCC's processing times tool before you plan, and allow extra time for biometrics, the medical exam and any request for documents. Because no processing time is guaranteed, avoid fixing non-refundable travel plans until you have a decision.

How to Check Your Application Status

You can check your application status and any requests from IRCC in your IRCC online account. That account is the official place for updates, so watch it, and any email linked to it, for instructions and deadlines.

How Long Is the Super Visa Valid?

IRCC states that a Super Visa provides multiple entries for up to 10 years, and that you are eligible to stay for up to 5 years at a time if you applied on or after 22 June 2023. The border services officer decides the authorised stay when you enter. See IRCC – length of stay on a Super Visa.

Super Visa vs. Regular Visitor Visa

IRCC lists processing times for a visitor visa and a Super Visa separately, and both vary by country and visa office. The Super Visa is meant for longer visits to a child or grandchild in Canada and has extra requirements (private medical insurance, a medical exam and the host's income), so compare requirements and not only speed. See the Super Visa eligibility guide to decide which fits your situation.
