Canada Super Visa Financial Requirements — LICO Income Proof
What your child in Canada must earn, what documents to submit, and how to calculate family size
The LICO (Low Income Cut-Off) + 30% is a minimum income requirement that your inviting child or grandchild in Canada must meet. It proves they can financially support you during your stay without being a burden on Canadian social services.
LICO + 30% Income Thresholds
IRCC publishes and updates the LICO table annually, and thresholds have changed materially in recent years — including a 2025 increase, and a March 2026 rule change that now lets the host qualify using either of the two most recent tax years (not just the latest one), and allows the visiting parent or grandparent's own income to be added to the host's income to help meet the threshold. Because these figures change, we don’t reproduce a dollar table here that could go stale. Check the current LICO + 30% thresholds directly on the IRCC website for your exact family size before applying.
Family size = host + their dependants (spouse, children) + the visiting parents. If both parents are visiting, count each as an additional person.
How to Calculate Your Family Size
Example: Your son lives in Canada with his wife and 1 child (family of 3). Both you and your spouse (parents) are visiting = add 2 persons. Total family size = 5 persons — check the current LICO + 30% threshold for a family of 5 on the IRCC website.
Proof of Income Documents
- Notice of Assessment (NOA) from Canada Revenue Agency for the most recent tax year — primary income proof
- T4 slips from employer for the most recent tax year
- Employment letter confirming current salary, position, and employment status
- Pay stubs for the last 3 months (if income has changed since NOA)
- For self-employed: business tax returns (T1 General) plus business registration

How to Calculate Family Size
Count everyone in the inviting person's household plus the visiting parent(s) or grandparent(s). For example, if your Canadian daughter has a spouse and two children, her household is 4 people. If both parents are applying together, the family size becomes 6.
What Documents Prove Financial Eligibility?
The inviting Canadian child or grandchild must provide the following with the Super Visa application (see our full Canada Super Visa documents checklist):
- Recent Canadian tax return (T1 General or Notice of Assessment from CRA)
- Recent employment letter showing salary and employment status
- Recent pay stubs (last 3 months)
- If self-employed: business registration + financial statements
Can Multiple Incomes Be Combined?
Yes. If the inviting person is married or in a common-law partnership, both spouses' incomes can be combined to meet the LICO threshold, provided both are living in the same household.
What If the Inviting Person Doesn't Meet the Threshold?
If the child or grandchild's income falls short, the application is significantly weakened. Consider delaying the application until income increases, or consult with a registered immigration consultant about alternative visitor visa options. Financial Requirements vs. Proof of Funds for the Visitor
Note that the financial threshold applies to the inviting Canadian resident, not to you as the visitor. You are not required to show funds in your Indian bank account for the Super Visa (though it can strengthen your application). The inviting person's ability to support you is what IRCC is assessing.
