Documents Required for Canada Super Visa from India

The Canada Super Visa requires documents from two parties: (1) the applicant (parent/grandparent in India), and (2) the host (son/daughter/grandchild in Canada). A complete application includes both sets; a complete checklist does not guarantee a visa, and the decision rests with IRCC. Your online IRCC application generates a personalized document checklist, which is the list that applies to you.

Documents You Must Submit (Applicant — Parent/Grandparent)

Identity and Travel Documents

• Valid passport — check that its validity covers your intended stay in Canada
• Copies of all previous passports (if applicable)
• Photo meeting IRCC’s photo specifications (uploaded in the online application; check the application for current requirements)

Application Forms

• IMM 5257 — Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa); applications are made online through your IRCC account, and your personalized checklist shows which forms apply
• IMM 5645 — Family Information Form
• IMM 5409 — Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (if applicable)
• Digital Photo and Signature (submitted online during application)

Health Insurance (Mandatory)

• Proof of private health insurance (policy or certificate)
• IRCC requires a minimum emergency coverage of CAD $100,000, valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry; the proof should also show the policyholder, coverage and validity dates so an officer can verify them
• Insurance must be from a Canadian insurance company or from a company outside Canada that the Minister has approved; other travel insurance policies may not be accepted

Personal Documents

• Proof of relationship: a copy of the host’s birth certificate or baptismal certificate, or another official document naming you as the parent or grandparent
• Marriage certificate (if applicable)
• Proof that you had an immigration medical exam with an IRCC-approved panel physician
• Proof of relationship to the inviting person (birth certificate chain — e.g., your child's birth certificate showing your name)

Documents from the Inviting Canadian Child/Grandchild

Proof of Canadian Status

• Copy of Canadian passport (if citizen) OR copy of Permanent Resident card (both sides); a host who is a registered Indian provides proof of registration

Income Proof (Minimum Income Requirement)

• Notice of Assessment (NOA) from CRA — IRCC’s preferred income document; the host’s income is assessed against the minimum necessary income for their family size (see the financial requirements guide and IRCC’s current table)
• T4 slips (most recent year)
• Letter of employment on company letterhead confirming current salary and employment status
• Pay stubs (IRCC lists pay stubs covering 12 months among its alternative income documents)
• If self-employed: business registration + financial statements + personal NOA

Invitation Letter (Mandatory)

• Signed invitation letter on plain paper including: relationship to you, the list and number of people counted in their family-size calculation, intended duration of your visit, commitment to provide financial support, their full name, address, and contact details, plus proof that they meet or exceed the minimum necessary income

Supporting Documents (Strongly Recommended)

• Your bank statements (last 3–6 months) — shows financial independence even if sponsored
• Property ownership documents in India — strengthens ties to home country
• Proof of employment in India (if applicable) or pension/retirement documents
• Previous Canadian visa records or travel history (if any)

Biometrics

If biometrics are required, IRCC will send instructions after you submit your online application. Applicants in India give fingerprints and a photo at a VFS Global Application Centre; complete this by the deadline in your instruction letter.

Tips for a Strong Application

Ensure the invitation letter and income proof are consistent — if the letter claims the inviting person earns X, the NOA and pay stubs should confirm this.
