Where This Case Reached
The points-based eligibility review was completed and the application was prepared for submission.
What This Case Demonstrates
This case shows why an Opportunity Card points calculation depends on formal recognition being completed first, not just the underlying qualification existing. See the IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework for more on this reasoning.

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
The Federal Government and the German Mission in India describe two ways to get an Opportunity Card. These points summarise their pages and are general guidance, not a description of any real applicant.
- Two routes. An applicant who already holds a recognised German or comparable foreign degree or vocational qualification is a skilled worker and has no additional requirements. Others need a minimum of six points, collected by combining criteria. Federal Ministry of the Interior: Opportunity Card points system ↗
- What earns points. The Ministry lists a recognition notice (or partial recognition), German or English language skills, work experience related to the qualification, a qualification in a shortage occupation, age, earlier legal residence in Germany and a partner who also applies. Federal Ministry of the Interior: Opportunity Card points system ↗
- The application starts with a score counter. In the Consular Service Portal a questionnaire called the score counter decides which option suits the applicant and then gives a personal list of documents to upload. German Mission India: Opportunity Card ↗
- Degree evidence for the skilled route. The mission asks for the highest degree that relates to the intended work, with mark sheets for every semester, and for a degree from an Indian university it asks for confirmation that studies were on-site or in regular mode, not by distance learning. German Mission India: Opportunity Card ↗
- Recognition check. The degree must be shown as matching in the anabin database and the university must carry the required anabin rating, or the applicant obtains a Statement of Comparability from ZAB. German Mission India: Opportunity Card ↗
If your application was refused – what to look for in the letter
The mission explains that submitting these documents does not guarantee a visa and that incomplete documentation may lead to rejection. The German Mission in India states that the rejection letter already gives the reason, that the visa section does not add explanations by email, and that an applicant may apply again at any time or file a lawsuit against the rejection within one month at the administrative court in Berlin (the remonstration procedure is no longer available at the German visa sections in India). German Mission India: if a national visa application is rejected ↗ It also warns that knowingly false or incomplete information can lead to refusal. German Mission India: declaration on true and complete information ↗ Read the stated reason against the checklist: recognition, points claimed, funds or documents. Our Opportunity Card eligibility page and qualification recognition page explain the main requirement areas, and the Opportunity Card FAQs cover common questions.
