The Applicant’s Situation
A retired couple from Gujarat wanted to visit their adult child in Canada for an extended family visit.
What the Assessment Identified
The review considered retirement status, pension or other income, financial records, family circumstances and the intended stay, alongside the host’s applicable income requirement.
Key Focus of This Case
Assessing each parent’s individual circumstances, the host’s financial eligibility and the household-size calculation.
What IndoWorld Actually Did
- Organised the available pension, savings and other records
- Reflected each parent’s circumstances in the file
- Set out the proposed support from the host alongside those records
Evidence and Documentation Considered
- Pension records
- Savings and other financial records
- Information on retirement status, family circumstances and the intended stay
- The host’s income evidence
Where This Case Reached
The file was prepared for submission to IRCC for both parents against the Super Visa requirements.
What This Case Demonstrates
When parents apply together, the host’s financial eligibility has to be calculated correctly; willingness to support them is not enough on its own. A couple’s retirement income is relevant to their own circumstances, while the host’s income requirement is assessed separately.
IndoWorld’s guidance follows the guidelines IRCC publishes on its website; the decision on every application rests with IRCC. A file is read honestly before it is prepared, and a weak point is said plainly rather than hidden. The senior citizen and parent visitor visa guide compares the options for older parents.
What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show
This is general guidance from IRCC for two parents applying for a Super Visa together to visit an adult child in Canada. It does not describe the case above.
- Both parents are counted. On the proof of financial support page, the family size count for the host’s minimum income includes the applicant and any other Super Visa applicants the host will support, such as a spouse or common-law partner.
- Retirement income, if it is used. Where an applicant adds income under Option 2, IRCC lists pay stubs, bank statements showing regular employment or pension deposits, and pension statements or rental contracts as examples. The applicant must also show income that continues while in Canada, and the document must show the currency.
- Insurance and the exam are per applicant. The insurance rules refer to cover for the applicant’s health care, and IRCC’s medical exam page says Super Visa applicants need an exam whatever the planned length of stay.
- Translations. The translation rules require an English or French translation of documents in another language, with a certified translator’s seal or an affidavit from an uncertified translator.
- Plan the stay. IRCC’s length of stay page sets out how long a holder can stay on each entry, depending on when they applied and entered, and says a holder must leave Canada or apply to extend before status expires.
- Check the visa office list. The forms page notes that the local visa office may ask for more documents, with a country selector for its instructions.

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter
For retired parents, a refusal notice often turns on money or on where the family is. If it says the applicant’s assets and financial situation are insufficient, set that line against the pension and savings records that were actually uploaded for each parent. Where the notice mentions significant family ties in Canada, compare it with what the file showed about the couple’s life at home. The same wording appears in visitor visa refusals, and the Canada visitor visa refusal reasons page explains it.
Have a refusal letter in front of you? IndoWorld experts read it and compare it with the application that was refused. Documents are sent by email, the review is held by video call, phone call or at the Vadodara office, and there is no charge for the review of a refusal. Start from the refusal letter review page.
