Documents Required for Germany Opportunity Card

Complete Documents Checklist

The German consulate requires all documents to be submitted in a specific format. Missing or incorrectly formatted documents are the single biggest reason for Opportunity Card rejections. Use this checklist for every application.

1. Identity and Travel Documents

• Original valid passport — must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps
• Photocopies of all used pages of your passport (including front and back cover)
• 2 recent biometric passport photos (35mm x 45mm, white background, taken within 6 months)
• National visa application form — completed in full, signed by applicant (download from German consulate website)

2. Qualification and Education Documents

• Original degree certificate or vocational training certificate (B.Tech, B.Sc, MBA, diploma, etc.)
• Official academic transcripts showing all subjects and grades
• Certified translation of degree and transcripts into German or English (by certified translator)
• Statement of Comparability from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB / Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen) — strongly recommended for Indian degrees
• Printout from anabin database confirming your institution and degree status (if listed)

3. Language Qualification Documents

• German language certificate — Goethe-Zertifikat A2, B1, B2, or C1 (original certificate with stamp); or TestDaF, DSH, or ÖSD equivalent
• English language certificate — IELTS (Academic or General, score sheet), TOEFL iBT score report, or Cambridge C1/C2 certificate (if claiming 1 point for English)
• Note: If not claiming language points, no language certificate is needed — but you must have enough other points

4. Financial Proof Documents

• Blocked account (Sperrkonto) confirmation letter — from Fintiba, Coracle, Deutsche Bank, or similar German bank showing €13,092/year (€1,091/month) deposited (recommended)
• OR bank statement (last 3 months) showing consistent balance of €13,092/year (€1,091/month) equivalent — must be apostilled or notarised if from an Indian bank
• OR notarised financial guarantee (Verpflichtungserklärung) from a German resident willing to sponsor your stay

5. Employment and Professional Documents

• Updated CV / Resume in German format (Lebenslauf) — chronological, including education and work history
• Employment certificates or reference letters from previous employers (showing job title, duration, responsibilities)
• Payslips or proof of professional experience (if applicable)

6. Additional Supporting Documents

• Travel health insurance policy — minimum €30,000 coverage, valid for the full Schengen/Germany stay period
• Criminal record certificate (Police Clearance Certificate) from India — must be apostilled and not older than 3 months at time of submission
• Visa application fee payment receipt — €75 (subject to change; check German consulate website)
• Cover letter / motivation letter explaining your purpose of travel, your target industry in Germany, and your plan to return if unsuccessful
