The Applicant’s Situation

An Indian parent wanted to visit a child in Canada and received income from sources other than a regular salary.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT

What the Assessment Identified

The income source and its evidence, the applicant’s circumstances and the Super Visa requirements were reviewed; the host’s eligibility was assessed separately.

FOCUS AREA

Key Focus of This Case

Explaining the actual source and continuity of the income without presenting it as employment salary.

CASE-HANDLING WORK

What IndoWorld Actually Did

  • Organised the available records to substantiate the income source
  • Explained the parent’s circumstances alongside those records
  • Described the income by its actual nature rather than as a salary
EVIDENCE CONSIDERED

Evidence and Documentation Considered

  • Records of the income source
  • The parent’s circumstances
  • The host’s eligibility evidence, assessed separately
PROCESS STAGE

Where This Case Reached

The income records were organised by source and checked against the Super Visa requirements before submission to IRCC.

WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES

What This Case Demonstrates

Non-salary income is documented according to what it really is, and the parent’s finances are kept distinct from the host’s income requirement. Calling rent or a pension a salary would make the file less accurate, not stronger.

IndoWorld’s guidance follows the guidelines IRCC publishes on its website; the decision on every application rests with IRCC. The family receives an honest read of the records before they are used, and nothing here is a promise of approval. The IndoWorld Evidence Integrity Framework explains why documents should match the facts.

OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

What the official guidance says an applicant like this must show

This is general guidance from IRCC on income evidence for a Super Visa applicant who is not salaried. It does not describe the case above.

  • IRCC names non-salary examples. On the proof of income step, an applicant’s documents can include pension statements, proof of ownership and leasing contracts for rental properties showing the rent amount and frequency, and bank statements showing investment income and regular pension deposits.
  • Show that it continues. The page says an applicant must provide proof of income that continues while in Canada, and the document must show the currency the applicant is paid in.
  • Know when it is used. The applicant’s income is relevant where the host relies on Option 2 (at least 75% of the minimum) and the applicant adds income to cover the rest; under Option 1 the host’s notice of assessment carries the test.
  • The host’s proof is separate. IRCC asks the host or co-signer for the Canada Revenue Agency notice of assessment, with other documents listed only where it is unavailable.
  • Translate what is not in English or French. The translation rules cover property papers and pension records issued in another language.
  • Check the visa office list. The local visa office instructions may add documents for applicants in India.

IF YOUR APPLICATION WAS REFUSED

If your application was refused: what to look for in the letter

For non-salary income, a refusal about funds is often about the source. Read the line on the origin of funds against the rental or pension records, since it speaks to what the deposits in the statements represent. A line that there is not enough evidence of sufficient funds can be compared with how the income was described in the application and in the supporting papers. The Canada visitor visa refusal reasons page explains the usual funds grounds.

Have a refusal letter in front of you? Clients email their documents, and the review takes place by video call, phone call or in person at the Vadodara office. There is no charge for the review of a refusal: IndoWorld experts read the letter and compare it with the application that was refused. You can start on the visitor / tourist visa refusal letter review page.
